Royal Yak Hunting
The
Himalayan Highland Yak hunts are physical hunts, as
the
animals like to stay in the high country. They average
1000#, mature bulls quite a bit bigger. As with the
buffalo, this is a private hunt, within a private herd,
on a private ranch! 100% of the animal harvested belongs
to the hunter. Our hunts, both bison and Himalayan Highland
Yak hunts start annually in November and run into March
- depending on weather. Himalayan Highland Yak meat
is a red meat that is similar to Bison. It is, however,
a finer texture on the muscle cuts and has a higher
Omega 3 rating. Himalayan Highland Yak are bovine animals.
They would be similar to a sheep hunt in the fact that
they stay high, and it is almost 100% a stalk and walk
hunt...no horses, no ATVs. The Himalayan Highland Yak
hide
is absolutely beautiful. The belly hair can be a foot
or so long, and combs out beautifully. Substaining the
Tibetans for years these animals are still followed
by the Nomads in their home country. There are several
colors of Himalayan Highland Yak White, Black, Trim
- black with a grey stripe down their back, and Royal
- which are the black and white animals you see in the
photos. Himalayan Highland Yak milk is highly desired
from the cows (Da) - but it must be obtained from a
domesticated herd.
Himalayan
Highland Yak hunts should be scheduled for 2-3 days.
